Stainless steel powder 409L/409CB (UNS S40900) is a ferritic, weldable grade with key performance features, including high compressibility, enhanced green strength and good sinterability.
This stabilized grade provides excellent corrosion resistance and has the capacity to provide high-caliber mechanical properties due to the high temperature sintering response.
409L Stainless Steel Advantages
409L/409CB’s versatility is enhanced by the addition of niobium (Cb), which is less prone to oxidation than titanium. This feature prevents carbide coarsening in the heat-affected zone (HAZ) during welding, ensuring stable microstructure and mechanical integrity.
The excellent atmospheric and saline corrosion resistance, along with hot oxidation resistance and elevated temperature yield strength, make 409L powders a cost-effective choice for manufacturing automotive components.
409L Stainless Steel Powder Applications
409L/409CB stainless steel is a prime candidate for automotive exhaust system applications. Typical automotive components include rear-view mirror mounts, sensor rings, exhaust flanges, exhaust support brackets, and seals. 409LNI Powder has added nickel for new automotive specifications.
